Welcome

Welcome to the BHCC, based in East Sussex in the UK.

The BHCC is a thriving photographic society with over 100 members of all ages and from all walks of life, interested in all aspects of photography – from film to digital, from traditional landscapes to contemporary images. Members' photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Our aim is to help photographers improve their image-making, both in terms of art and technique.

New members and visitors are very welcome. Come and be our guests for a week or two, free of charge, to see if you'd like to join. We look forward to seeing you!

BHCC Photo Fringe 2008 exhibition – "CONFLICT: An interpretation"

Striking images from one of the UK's most progressive camera clubs. A representation of conflict as the subject or as a visual language through the eyes of the photographer, and a chance to view a selection of the Club's most recent photography.

The Brighton Photo Fringe 2008 is organising a large number of exhibitions this autumn in conjunction with the Brighton Photo Biennial. The BHCC is staging the largest of these exhibitions, which is now open for viewing.

Photojournalism, propaganda, privacy, public interest – a panel discussion in Brighton

Ever been questioned on your right to take a photograph? The public were invited to join a lively discussion on photography and photographers' rights, sharing their experience with other photographers and exploring the purpose and direction of documentary photography in today's world.

"Are photographers increasingly being restricted? What photographs should we take? What can we take? Do photographers have a responsibility to the wider public? Where does the photographer stand in our increasingly paranoid society? What's the role of photojournalism in the age of digital manipulation?"

These and many other questions were explored by a distinguished panel of photographers, legal experts, campaigners and academics and the audience at a public discuusion event on 15 October. Our thanks to all who participated to make this a very successful evening. A Brighton Photo Fringe 2008 event.

A new season at the BHCC

Our exciting 2008–2009 season has started!

The Club meets every Tuesday at 7.30 pm. We also have new premises – members are reminded not to turn up at the English Language Centre! Instead, go to the Methodist Church Hall in Portland Street, Hove BN3 5DR, on the corner of St Patrick's Road – see the draggable interactive map, below. The nearest rail stations are Aldrington and Hove, and there is a good bus service (Nos. 2, 2A, 46, 46A, 49).
