Time to see your summer event images

Documentary photojournalist known for long-form photo essays and conflict/humanitarian reportage from war zones (Syria, Kosovo, Bosnia, Kashmir, Sudan) and major news events (Obama's election, 2015 Paris attacks, UK elections, COVID-19 ICU wards).

This is the 2nd ofJerry’s walks.

Both walks are the same, plenty of shade and shops and jammed with photography opportunities for all types of photographers. At each location we will be spending around 20/25 minutes to give everyone relaxed shooting time. Lunch will be impromptu, you may wish to bring your own or you can buy a sandwich from the food outlets available en-route.

Sarah practice spans commercial/lifestyle portrait work alongside fine-art and documentary-leaning personal projects. 'Windows' documents isolation and domestic life during COVID-19 lockdown in Houston, Texas. 'The 544' is a more experimental, process-based project using cyanotype printing to create figurative memorial images for 544 psychiatric patients murdered by the Nazis in Latvia in 1941.

The main aims of the evening are for us to get to know each other and to provide an opportunity to share images. 

This could be natural (birth), man-made (architecture), a composite image, a manipulated image or a scene that has been imagined and created by the photographer.  

Our special guest judge for the evening has a great eye for creativity, and a thoughtful approach to critiquing. 

Best known for the long-running 'Fleeting Reflections' series — graphic, abstract in-camera images (no compositing) made from the reflective glass architecture of Canary Wharf. His wider 'Abstract Observations' work finds order and pattern in ordinary urban surfaces; described as playful, pared-back and calming.

Jo Teasdale leads this workshop, which is designed to encourage you to think about how to improve your images after you’ve taken them.

An informal ‘round table’ night with multiple tables, usually with around 6 people per table, talking about each-others work.

There are usually one or two experienced members who then select images from every table, and talk about the strengths of those images, or where an image could be tweaked to be made stronger… or how it relates to the given theme.

Described by The Times (2006) as 'one of the most important photographers of the 20th century'; holds an honorary fellowship from University of the Arts London (2013); subject of the Sky Arts documentary series Celebrity Exposed (2012); appeared on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs (Feb 2026). Ran the Richard Young Gallery in Kensington with his wife Susan.

We have a special guest judge for this evening, with a great eye and considerable following.  His style of critiquing is unlike anything we have experienced previously, and it is sure to be a positive & insightful evening.  

Club member Chris Gil will lead a short workshop followed by a photo walk, exploring how we can make effective and atmospheric images when the light levels are low.

Mimi Mollica (b. 1975, Palermo, Sicily) is an Italian, London-based documentary photographer. Began as an assistant to architectural photographer Hélène Binet before building a career in documentary photography/photojournalism for magazines and NGOs. Best known for the book Terra Nostra (Dewi Lewis, 2017), on the lasting scars of the Sicilian Mafia.

4-6 of our members will be making concise presentations about their work.  Expect a variety of genres, styles and techniques, followed by discussion.   

This session is a follow-up to the November photo walk, on the theme of low light. Chris Gil will comment on the images. We’ll give you more information about how to enter nearer the time.

Club member Jerry Webb will lead this workshop, in which he’ll explore the different ways to use photography to tell stories.

Select one colour from blue, black or yellow as the subject of your photo.  There are lots of possible interpretations.   

What does this colour mean to you?  Does it convey a feeling?  Is it a colour you like to present in your work in some way?

Choose from ‘Love’ or ‘Absence’ as your subject.  Either subject can be literal or symbolic.  Could be togetherness or family.  Or delve into the symbolism in different cultures.

Jerry Webb will comment on this follow-up critique evening. We’ll give you more information about how to enter nearer the time.

Jo Teasdale invites you to think outside of the box, using self-portraiture as a starting point. The workshop will emphasise innovative and hands-on approaches.
